About
Newman's GSD
Welcome
to Newman's German Shepherds home on the web! I'm Debbie Dobbins & this is my small hobby kennel located at my home
in Indianapolis, Indiana. German Shepherds are not just my hobby, but my passion and one true love in
this life. I have had German Shepherds since the early 90's and I have been actively involved in AKC conformation
shows since 2001. I'm a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America and a signer of the Breeders Code of Ethics. My
breeding program is a kennel in name only as my dogs are all indoors as well as my litters are born and
raised inside. I strongly believe in QUALITY NOT QUANTITY when breeding and owning German Shepherds; which is why
I will only own the BEST of the bloodlines that are out there. Our adult dogs are only kenneled outdoors in comfortable
weather and then, ONLY during the DAYTIME for play. At night they are indoor family pets, as any good dog should
be. Due to time considerations, home space, & individual attention for each dog, I only have 2-3 adult dogs
living with us at a time, and rarely more than one litter per year. I have not had a litter in a few years
due to my health problems. So as you can imagine, I'm very excited to be making some new plans. Check out my drop
dead georgous girl "Velvet" on the girls page and our puppy page for details. The goals for breeding every litter is to produce healthy, good tempered, intelligent dogs
with correct movement & type as outlined in the German Shepherd Dog Standard. I cannot stress this enough,
that good temperament is the most important trait because without it, you can't have
good pets, good show dogs, nor do you really have a "true" German Shepherd Dog at that point. I believe in quality not
quantity and with only 1-2 litters a year, I take great care and personal pride in planning each litter as I may
not have many opportunities to get it right. Puppies are then carefully placed into quality show homes & loving
pet homes... and yes, I have refused to sell to people before because I felt it wasn't the best situation for one of my pups.
What's In
A Name?
Many people
ask about my kennel name. My first two German Shepherds were named Victor and Nikki after the Newman's on the soap opera "The
Young & The Restless". Though these two were "German" bred dogs, and no longer with us, it only seemed right to remember
them by naming my show kennel after them.
Future
litter
plans are in the works so
check back often for updates.
Thank
you for your interest in my dogs!

"It is often the inherent tending instinct
of a dog who cannot tend sheep for a living, that makes the shepherd dog take care of other living beings...to gather them
together and to fend for them, although often according to his own private interpretation!"
